Business Angels Switzerland (BAS) is an association giving young entrepreneurs the opportunity to pitch their projects and start-ups to seasoned investors and successful entrepreneurs. The aim of the presentation is to obtain financing for the project, coaching, or both.
The 100 members of BAS are almost equally split into the sections Zurich and Suisse Romande.
BAS is a non for profit organisation, neither an investment fund nor a holding company and is thus not involved at all in its members’ investments’ decisions.
For much more info please listen to our new podcast with Adrienne Perramond, our board member and former president. The following time stamps help to jump to specific sections:
8:13 – Crucial business angel skills
11:32 – Average ticket size
25:44 – Covid trends
34:08 – Picking 3 markets
After the startup registers on the BAS website, a committee chooses the projects
to be invited to present to a monthly (dinner-)meeting, either in Lausanne/Geneva or Zurich. Pitches can be made in English but spoken language during our gatherings are German (in Zurich) and French (in Lausanne/Geneva). If sufficient interest is raised for the project, some members will form a due diligence team. This DD team will evaluate the investment opportunity in more details and possibly make an investment proposal to the start-up and all the members of BAS. The investment itself is personal, not in BAS’s name.
There is no typical investment amount although historically consolidated investments amount to around 200K. BAS does not charge any fee if an investment takes place. Entrepreneurs presenting at a Dinner-Meeting have to participate to the cost of their own meal, presently CHF 100.- per startup (max 3 people).
The BAS Dinner-Meetings offer members the opportunity to evaluate different types of startups across many industries in convivial surroundings. BAS members bring experience and/or expertise and their background is very diverse:
Seasoned entrepreneurs who have successfully sold their company.
Former General Managers of small and large companies with a particular know-how, a strong and diversified network and some financial means.
Decision-makers in organizations that either manage their or their clients’ funds.
Investments in startups are very high-risk investments. Members must be able to lose all their investments. It is intended that members make at least one investment a year for some CHF 20K. There is no upper limit.
10 evenings per year for the dinner meetings
2 to 5 days per project that has caught a member’s interest for the due diligence
